Company history

JSC "Bashneftegeofizika" is the oldest and one of the greatest oil exploring and geophysical enterprises in Russia. It was founded in 1932 when field discovery started in Volga-Ural oil and gas province. At the beginning geophysical operations on the territory of the republic were carried out by central Research and Development Establishments under the contract with Vostokneft trust which was located in Sverdlovsk or its geological exploratory office located in Perm. Thus by 1931 works were performed by three single-team geophysical crews. First of them, magnetic crew (Manager V.P. Orlov), carried out vertical force traverse using Shmidt magnetic variometer covering area of 1.5x10~15 kilometers. Works were realized under contract between Vostokneft trust and Leningrad Geophysical Research and Development Institute.

At the same time experienced gravimetric crew of geological exploratory office of Vostokneft trust (Manager V.M. Navrotsky) mapped gravity field vertical component with Bumberg Z-variometer on the territory of Ishimbay region. The third was seismic crew majoring refraction survey and managed by S.S. Zhukov. In 1939 geological exploratory office was incorporated to Ishimbyneft trust, which was subsequently reorganized into Bashkir geological exploratory trust of Glavneft Narkomtyazhprom. The latter incorporated Craelius, geo-surveying and geophysical crews. V.D. Sapozhnikov was appointed the Manager of the Trust. On April of 1938 the first cameral party was organized in geophysical exploratory office to summarize and do scientific research on performed geophysical operations, to analyze drilling results and to give recommendations for drilling. The first Manager of the party was A.A. Glukhov.

In 1939 "Bashneft" Trust of Glavneft Narkomtyazhprom split into two independent trusts – Ishimbayneft and Tuimazaneft respectively. Geophysical service stayed within geophysical exploratory office of Ishimbayneft Trust. At that same time Bashkir geological exploratory trust of Glavneft Narkomtyazhprom was founded to be at the head of all craelius, geo-surveying and geophysical crews of Bashkiria. V.D. Sapozhnikov was appointed its manager. By that time geophysical department comprised 13 field parties and 1 logging crew. In 1937 V.D. Shashin, later on a USSR Minister of Oil Industry, worked as a technician and then as the Crew Master in that logging crew. In 1940 the final structure of Bashkir geophysical service was established. State Eastern Trust of Electrical Exploration was established in Ufa with V.D. Sapozhnikov at the head and N.L. Guschin as the chief engineer. The Trust consolidated with Geophysical Trust as its Eastern affiliate in a year. By 1950 the whole geophysical service of Bashkiria consolidated into State Union Geophysical Trust Bashneftegeofizika.

Seismic exploration data obtained in 1949-1954 were used by Bashneft company to sink wells in Chekmagushevskaya, Yugomashevskaya, Chetyrmanovskaya, Turbaslinskaya and Zagorskaya areas. Drilling the wells resulted in discovering rich deposit oil fields. In 50s and at the beginning of 60s electrometric and gravimetric explorations were carried out by Trust on a large scale. The data contrived from practicing the methods enabled to explore reef zone along western pre-sidewall zone of Preduralsky bending. Effective seismic exploratory methods - CRM, SRM, CDR and borehole seismic were elaborated at that time which together with electrogravimetry data contributed to detailed exploration of utmost southern part of Bashkir PreUrals. In 1976 Well logging service company was founded. In 1979 Bashkir expedition was set up to perform operations on rotational basis in Western Siberia.

Nowadays Trust’s personnel comprises 12 Candidates of Science and 2 Doctors of Science. Trust provided labor force, devices and equipment when similar geophysical departments had been set up in Western Siberia and Belorussia. More than once Trust’s specialists went on business trips to other countries to provide technical assistance in geophysical operations. More than 80 oil and gas fields were explored in Bashkiria on the basis of geophysical operations results. Bashneftegeofizika has been carrying out seismic operations in Western Siberia and Subpolar region since 1986.

1931 - three Vostokneft Trust's crews perform operations in Bashkiria: magnetic, gravimetric and seismic.
